Alan Powell – artist

Since 1972, I have worked in electronic arts, which includes single channel video, installations, artist books, and electronically generated two- dimensional art. My undergraduate education was based on modernist practice. My aesthetic and cultural art practice is based in post-modernism and cultural studies. I have been involved in artist collectives including Electron Movers, 1973-1978 and Termite TV, 1993– the present. I practice collaboration and connecting art to social process. Installation also continues to an integral part of my artistic practice in that I believe the creation of environments immerses the audience into an artistic experience. My investigation into the natural environment began during artist residencies at Art Park, Mountain Lake Biological Station, and at the Catskill Nature Center.
Through panoramic photographs that I created images represented a clearer picture of how I was experiencing nature.
